The team in Rwanda from Ascension and our sister churches is posting occasional updates with news from their trip. Check Resurrection’s site for the latest from the team.

In September and October we will resume our twice-monthly community potluck dinners on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. The next one will be September 12. Look for more details to come.

In September, October and November this fall, small groups will pause one week a month in order to come together as a whole parish for teaching and fellowship. These times of all-parish instruction will happen on the second Thursday of the month, September 9, October 14 and November 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the basement of Christ Church.

Are you a K-12 teacher in the Metro DC area? Take some time this weekend to join with other teachers from Rez, Advent and Ascension to pray for our students & our colleagues. We all have a zillion things to do after the first week of school, but prayer should be at the top of our list… and will enable us to get the list done! We’ll be meeting Saturday, August 28 at 10:30am at 322 D Street NE. Please email Amy at amyreno[at]gmail[dot]com if you have any questions and/or wish to indicate your attendance.

The women of Ascension will be gathering to pray for each other and for the church community Sunday, August 22 at 10 a.m. Angela Weston will be hosting.

Our August picnic potluck will be this Sunday, August 15 following the service. This will also be your chance to say hi and goodbye again to Nancy Ruppel, who has been in Haiti for the last five months and is returning for another six months. Please bring your favorite food item to share. Weather permitting, we’ll go to Lyon Park.

Small groups are preparing to restart for the Fall. If you have not been involved in an Ascension small group and would like to be, please contact the church office with your address.

We will be receiving new members on Sunday, September 19. If you are interested in membership at Ascension, contact Michelle at the church office to get started on the process, mgriffith[at]theascension[dot]org.

A team of nine from Advent, Ascension and Resurrection is going to visit our sister church in Nyagatare, Rwanda and participate in the As We Forgive reconciliation work. Help them raise money for the trip by attending Groovin’ for Rwanda on August 20 at The North Hall at Eastern Market. Texas Two Step and Swing lessons start at 8:00 p.m. and music starts at 8:30. The Wil Gravatt band will be playing (www.wilgravatt.com). Admission is $10 at the door; proceeds go to support the team.

Parents! Join us for the second week of the parenting workshop this Saturday, July 24, from 9-11 a.m. downstairs at Christ Church. Childcare and coffee are provided.
